In the new games, the story makes its biggest divergence from Sun and Moon once you reach the Altar of the Sunne in Ultra Sun or the Altar of the Moone in Ultra Moon, which will occur once you have made it through the Dragon Trial at Vast Poni Canyon on Poni Island.
